ELAC of Germany have been building loudspeakers in-house as far back as 1981. But the compny is a lot older than that. The company was founded in 1926 and pioneered the field of underwater sound technology. By 1948 they had developed their first turntable - over the years they would sell 4 million! Their expertise led to the introduction of the first stereo phono cartridge in 1957, becoming a huge force in the worldwide turntable market. ELAC is one of the few brands worldwide who have complete control over the finished products - they design everything from the ground up in-house, even so far as magnet design!
