Tis the season to be jolly!

And I am a happy camper since grabbing my new Yamaha RX-Z7 AV Receiver last week! A fantastic bit of kit, and I will do an in-depth review over the Xmas break (with plenty of pics!). Stay tuned!

Hi Mark, Mark R here in NZ. Am also looking at getting a new receiver hopefully before 2009 prices get pumped up but unsure of what to get either Pioneer sc lx81 as can get a good deal on it denon avr 4308 or the new yammy z7. Majorly waiting on review from audioholics on the yammy. Run 4ohm speaker and read pio don’t like them so here’s hoping

Hi Mark,
Should be no issues with the Yammy driving 4 Ohms. I have no doubt the Audioholics review will be a good one. Not sure what the state of play is in NZ but here in Australia Yamaha have at least guaranteed no price rises of their AV equipment till MArch (though hifi stuff is going up Jan 1).
Bottom line is Ive been running the Z7 2 weeks now and its a fantastic upgrade from my 3800.

Mark .. is the 2 ch audio quality noticeably better on the RX-Z7 vs the 3800? Mind telling me price you got it for?

Thanks

Hi Neale,
To be honest I havent tried it in stereo mode as I have a separate 2 channel setup in another room, however I will give this a serious sit down for an hour on Sunday and report back via email if you like, as I plan to do an in-depth review review as soon as the holiday madness is over. I would imagine its better but how much better it is would be hard for me to quantify. I got a great price but then I work in the industry (wink wink – see the web address that forms part of my blog address for a hint) – if youre interested let me know and I’ll see what I can do for ya.

Hello Mark,

I am planning to buy RX Z7 AV and use it as pre-amp, I was wondering what power amp would you recommend to go with the pre-amp. If you can possibly let me know the store you brought from and the appropriate street price / bargained price
When will you be putting up the review for the AV?

Thanks

Aviraj

I left you a PM on DTVForums – now that you have your Z7, do you still have the RX-V3800 and is it for sale ?

  Mark wrote @ January 4th, 2009 at 10:20 am

Hi Aviraj,
It really depends on the price point, but the new Rotel RMB-1575 would be a great partner (5 x 250W) or the existing NAD T975. Then of course you have the locally-made Elektra power amps which have a great reputation. With regard to the purchase, as I work in the industry it was quite easy for me to buy (hint, as I told Neale above, where I bought it forms part of the blog address of this site). I plan on putting up my own reviews ometime this coming week, but I think Audioholics (who are doing a professional review) may beat me to the punch!

Hi Philip – PM replied to.

Thanks Mark for the response, I will try to run with the combination you have mentioned and see how I go, if I am buying any of the NAD & Yamaha combiation will definetly come back to you to get the best price, if it is possible for you to get for me.

Thanks

Aviraj

Hello Mark

Will you be able to get the Yamaha Z7 for me? as you suggested to Neale. If yes can you please send me the best price for the Z7, I am also interested in REL T1 if that helps to secure good price from the place you work. BTW I leave in Sydney

Thanks

Aviraj

Hi Mark,

I want to upgrade from my harmon kardon 630 to either the Yamaha z7 or Pioneer sc LX81.
I have the BW 704 , HTM7 Center, LM1 for surrounds and ASW855 sub.
Which one will best suite these speakers.

Thanks

  Mark wrote @ August 10th, 2009 at 3:51 pm

Hi Werner,
While I feel the Yamaha would be better suited to those speakers, you really need to get an audition if you can to compare. What suits one person’s ears may not suit another!
