Well the replacement fibre optic ceiling kit arrived, and works, so Ill begin work on that over the next few weeks. I put my media shelving up, as seen in the pics below. Unfortunately it was impossible to get all my media in the one shot as I recently sold my wide angle lens.
Happy New Year to you all! Looks like 2011 could very well be a great year! Already have a few ideas and projects on the go, some of which got put in hiatus towards the latter half year. Anyway, heres my (current) list of to-dos:-
1. Install Star Ceiling Fibre Optic Kit in Theatre Room ceiling.
2. Install Outdoor Theatre Projection system.
3. Install a window-sill in the Theatre Room.
4. Install shelves in store room for empty BR cases.
OK so not necessarily AV-related, but I will be able to utilise it to take some new and improved shots of the systems! After a full 24 hours of researching I decided to buy the Nikon D90 Digital SLR, complete with 18mm-105mm VR lens. I have a few friends who have this camera, so they swore me off Canon (which I was dead-set on getting). So I should have this early next week. Here’s a close up:-
Well the postings have been infrequent, and I apologise. There hasnt been anything to report! However, I’ve thought about the recently completed room and what I can do to improve things further, so here is what the future holds:-
My solution to the screen masking is to buy some 10mm foam of some description from Clarke Rubber, cover it with black felt/velour and cut to size exactly slotting into the top and bottom of the screen. The VW60 produces excellent blacks, but these masks will absorb the stray light that highlights the letterbox nature of wider-than-1.78:1 ratio, and will make for a more visceral image on-screen. Over the weekend I plan to see how the zoom method looks in the room. If a success, I’ll buy a scope screen which will future-proof me for the day when quality anamorphic lenses become truly affordable!
