Hello Mark,
Can you give me some insight on my Yamaha Zone 2/3 capability? There’s no sound coming out of my zone speakers.
Are CD/DVD player connected to HDMI a digital output? What about the YDS Ipod we use, is that digital, too? I’ve read in AVS forum that some people are able to listen to it on their zone/s. What exactly do you mean by analog output only?
Thank you much for your time.
Ron from California
Hi Ron,
In order to get audio playing through the Zone 2/3 areas, the original source components MUST be connected via analogue cables also. If a DVD player is merely connected to the AVR with HDMI, this will not pass the audio to the Zone outputs. The Yamaha iPod dock is essentially converting the audio to analogue, so will work fine (it does in my setup). I use the iPod to feed audio outside to my second zone when entertaining.
Analogue means using the red and white RCA cables.
Hope this helps!
Mark
Mark,
Great setup you have there, just wondering as i have a pair of ELAC FS207 and running that on the DENON AVR 3808 at the moment. Have you tested these speakers on other amps? I wanted to try listening to this set of speakers on the Yamaha pre & power amp that my wife’s uncle has bought 10 years ago… but haven’t had a chance to transport these speakers over as yet.
Hi Brendan,
It may well be worth the trip. I suspect that pre/power combo will blow the Denon away (no disrespect intended!). So many things point in the Yamaha’s favour; more real power, less distortion and impact on signal path due to the simplistic nature of pre/power. My recent Cyrus addition to the ELACs is rated at only 40 watts but my does it sound amazing!
